Cutting Mat
A self-healing cutting mat protects your workspace and prevents damage to your table or desk. It also provides a stable, non-slip surface that allows for cleaner, more controlled cuts. Grid lines on the mat can help with alignment and precision.
Precision Cutter
Use a sharp precision knife for accurate, detailed layer cutting. A sharp blade is essential. Dull blades tear the paper fibers and reduce control. Replace the blade frequently, especially once the tip begins to lose sharpness. Always keep spare blades on hand to maintain clean, professional cuts throughout the build.
Ball Stylus tool
A ball stylus is used to gently press and flatten cut sections that may lift or curl after cutting. By applying controlled pressure, you can smooth out raised edges and ensure layers sit cleanly and evenly.
Tweezers
Tweezers are essential for handling small or delicate cut-out pieces. They allow you to place detailed elements accurately without bending, creasing, or touching adhesive surfaces with your fingers.
Acrylic Paint Markers
After cutting, white paper edges become visible. Acrylic paint markers are used to cover these exposed edges, creating a clean and professional finish. Black is a great starting option, while carefully matching colors to the artwork adds a higher level of realism and detail.
⚠️ Avoid using alcohol-based or permanent markers, as they may bleed through the card stain the design.
3D Foam Pads
Thin adhesive foam pads create separation between layers, adding depth and dimension to the build. They are especially useful for elements that are not connected to the card borders, such as floating objects or interior details, as they provide stable support without visible attachment points. Using different thicknesses (1 mm or 2 mm) allows you to control how far each layer stands out from the background.
Flat Ruler
A flat ruler is essential for guiding straight, controlled cuts and maintaining clean edges. It helps keep your blade aligned, especially when cutting long or structural sections. Using a metal ruler (instead of plastic) prevents accidental damage from the blade and ensures more precise results.
3D Card Frame
The final assembly component. Once all layers are prepared and stacked, the 3D card frame secures everything in place. It protects the structure and transforms the layered build into a stable, display-ready showcase piece.
